I had the pleasure of providing my 5th grade class this year with the experience of a Firework Studio art lesson and project. My students each made small glass collages that were fired in a kiln and turned into beautiful glass bowls.
The instructor presented scientific, historic, and artistic aspects of glass fusing and truly captivated the children. She brought enough materials and tools for everyone to make their own glass dish. We are all very proud of our finished art glass (I made one myself). The children were enthralled with the process and materials. Transforming and manipulating glass seems so mysterious and magical yet this program brought it right into our classroom.
I strongly recommend that teachers take advantage of the opportunity to provide their students with this unique experience, it won’t be forgotten.
